Investing In Our Community

As we approach the holiday season and new year, it’s a good time to review how we feel about our individual contribution to society. Yes, our investments, including our retirement accounts, have lost money. No, there is not constant job security for most employees. However, even despite the current position of our national economy it doesn’t mean we can’t still give back to the community. Volunteering is a great way to give back at little to no cost, other than your time.

Ron Alsop in his book ‘The Trophy Kids Grow Up’ cites a 2006 survey by Cone Inc and Amp Insights that notes more than 60% of 13 to 25 year olds said they feel personally responsible for making a difference in the world.

Not ready to tackle the world? Well then, how about making a difference in Wichita? While the economy has many people cinching down on their pocketbooks, volunteering often costs nothing but your time. And remember, you don’t have to step right out and become volunteer extraordinaire. Many opportunities are either a one-time volunteer experience, or allow you to commit one hour or less per week.
